LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS

   Are you ready for Photoshop?

This course is called “LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS” for a reason.  Why? Because it is all about layers.  Isn’t that clever?  This is a beginning to intermediate level class, and while some understanding of Photoshop will help you greatly, we will not leave anyone behind.

Layers:  We will deal with them from all sides:  What they are, when to make one, how to may one, why to make one … and then use that knowledge to lay a firm foundation from which to begin to get very creative.

My goal is to make you really understand layers.  We will use layers to control retouching.  We will learn how to use adjustment layers and layer masks. We will dig deeper into creating composite images, making promotional pieces and price lists, making new backgrounds and stretching existing backgrounds, adding lines and borders to images and how to deepen colors and enhance skies, using layer blend modes and styles, and a serious discussion on the type tool.

We will delve into the dark world of the Pen Tool!  I will make you understand file formats and learn how to batch process raw files … and anything else you really want to know and if I can figure it out!  We also will go into using the Bridge for workflow and management purposes.

Your goal is to come prepared!  You will need your computer (laptop or desktop), keyboard, mouse (or Wacom tablet) and all related power cords. You can bring a scanner if you want to but it is not required.  And don’t forget three very important things:  1) Photoshop CS4 (hopefully!) installed and working (CS3 is acceptable); 2) A working knowledge of basic photoshop to include knowing how to download images, use the image adjustment features, and a good fundamental knowledge of Photoshop’s tools and a basic knowledge of file management; and 3) A great attitude for a week of learning and fun.
